Position Description (include how to apply):

The purpose of the Public Speaker for Youth position is to relinquish anonymity and recover out loud to increase public awareness about risks and consequences of underage drinking and substance misuse.

Qualifications:

  • Speaker with two years of continuous recovery
  • Public speaking experience preferred, not required (training provided)
  • No expectation of anonymity
  • Must be able to handle constructive criticism
  • Required to provide recovery references
  • Able to tell recovery story in 3 minute, 15 minute or 45 minute segments
  • Must be able to build rapport with youth and adolescents
  • Must be able to work around children
  • Must have valid driver’s license or State ID and reliable transportation

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct middle school, high school, community forums and parent presentations to share your recovery story.
  • Facilitate pre and post surveys before and after school presentations.
  • Conduct rap sessions (focus groups) with youth and adolescents after presentations.
  • Display professional etiquette at all times.
  • Attend training and other scheduled meetings
  • Wear program uniform during presentations
  • Continuous improvement of public speaking skills
  • Awareness of street trending, alcohol, drugs and other tobacco products
