The Executive Director will lead a major effort to place an African American Cultural Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They will have a great leadership gift and a strong work ethic that will create a cultural institution that is financially sustainable and that is widely supported by the community.  They will have earned a reputation for effectiveness in collaborating with a Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, key stakeholders, and the broader community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership in implementing the mission, vision, and objectives of NIA Centre.Designing, overseeing and implementing special events based upon the NIA Centre Business Plan that generate revenue.
  • Writing grants and developing impactful programming in NIA Centre’s six focus areas.Identifying, cultivating and soliciting corporate underwriters for NIA Centre events and programs.
  • Conducting fund development research on an ongoing basis to identify new funding opportunities within Grand Rapids and across the country. 
  • Providing special event implementation and obtaining corporate and philanthropic support to host My Story and CONNECT events.Creating and overseeing a major annual fund development event.
  • Creating and implementing an aggressive social media marketing strategy to increase the visibility of NIA Center.Increasing the number of NIA Centre’s memberships and create informative, unique and fun events to engage current members in the life of the organization.
  • Developing a volunteer program, tracking system and increase the number of volunteers for NIA Centre events and program.
  • Developing an overall strategy to engage and broaden community support for NIA Centre’s work.Working collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and the broader community.
