Detroit Horse Power teaches social-emotional skills to Detroit youth through riding and caring for horses. Current programs bring participants to barns outside the city for free horseback riding summer camps and an after-school program. At the same time, Detroit Horse Power is moving forward in partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District to reactivate a demolished school site within Detroit’s city limits by constructing a new urban equine education center. This unique development will make DHP's programs scalable and accessible while strengthening the neighborhoods where our students grow up.

Detroit Horse Power seeks a Managing Director with extensive previous nonprofit leadership experience to guide day-to-day operations and programming oversight. This full-time role will cover a significant range of organizational responsibilities and will work in close partnership with the Executive Director. 

Key responsibilities include: Human Resources (culture, organizational values, hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, benefits), Finance (coordinate book-keeping, financial reporting, annual audit), Compliance (nonprofit administrative requirements, insurance), Strategic Operational Projects (i.e., sustainable student transportation solutions), and Program Oversight (direct report for Program Manager, guiding program strategy). 

The optimal candidate will have at least 10 years of professional experience, with 3 or more years in nonprofit executive leadership. Experience working in Detroit and/or an educational nonprofit setting will be highly valued.
